A Nice Saturday

At 5 bucks per person (children and seniors free), Spruce Meadows is certainly good value for your money. Since we had 2 free entry passes, we decided to go check it out. We are glad we did.

The event was the Queen Elizabeth II Cup which happens to be the last equestrian event before the Olympics. We were only there for phase 2, which is the top 12 from round one.

The rush seating includes a grass area which was not very full at all so Lizzy had a lot of room to roll around. And since it was on a hill, roll around she certainly did.
Canadian Eric Lamaze was the eventual winner, with Canadians also in second and third. Eric and some Canadian girl (her horse was named Special Ed) after 2 rounds were both clear (had no faults) so had a jump off to decide first place. Eric ran this course clear as well, but after knocking over one pole Christine someoneorother was eliminated.

Here are a couple pictures of Eric Lamaze. Where we were sitting, we couldn't see the last 3 jumps. There was a jumbotron that showed them though, so it wasn't too bad. Plus the jumps we were right in front of were the trickiest including a fast triple jump that caught many a rider out.

There was also an apearance by the Lord Strathcona's Horse and some other group for the award ceremony.
After wandering around the plaza for a while, we went to Dairy Queen on the way home. All in all a good day. Or as Lizzy would say (if she could talk)

"Any day I get home covered in chocolate with a new toy and no pants, is a GOOD day."
